Prince Harald of Norway was born on 21 February 1937 in Skaugum, Norway as the third child and first son of Crown Prince Olav of Norway and his wife Crown Princess Märtha of Norway, née Princess of Sweden. He was baptised on 31 March 1937 in Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Oslo. His godparents were, King Haakon VII of Norway, Queen Maud of Norway, Prince Carl of Sweden, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, King George VI of Great Britain, Queen Mary of Great Britain, King Léopold III of the Belgians and Crown Princess Ingrid of Denmark. 

In 1940 the whole family had to flee Norway because of German invasion. Crown Princess Märtha and her children fleed to Sweden, while the King and Crown Prince stayed in Norway. They spent some days at Prince Carl Bernadotte's home in Fröturna and then moved to Drottningholm palace on 26 April 1940. After the King and Crown Prince had to flee Norway in June 1940, they decided that Sweden was no longer a safe place for their family. On 17 August 1940, the Crown Princess and her children left to USA from Finland. During the war Harald lived in Washington D.C. with his mother and sisters, while his father and grandfather stayed in London.

From 1943 Harald attended The White Hall Country School. After the end of war in 1945 he returned back to Norway with his family. In the autumn of 1945 he was enrolled in third grade of Smestad skole as the first royal to attend a public school. In 1955 he graduated from Oslo Katedralskole and in autumn of the same year he started his studies at University of Oslo. As for his military education, he was enrolled into Cavalry Officers' Candidate School at Trandum, followed by enrollment at the Norwegian Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1959. In 1960 Harold started his studies at Balliol College, Oxford where he studied history, economy and politics.

After the death of his grandfather on 21 September 1957 he became the Crown Prince of Norway. He attended Council of State for the first time on 27 September 1957 and took the oath to the Constitution of Norway on 21 February 1958. His first official foreign trip abroad was to United States of America where he celebrated the 50th anniversary of American Scandinavian Foundation.

In March 1968 Harald became engaged to commoner, Sonja Haraldsen, which caused a lot of controversy. They have been previously dating 9 years. He married Sonja on 29 August 1968 at Oslo Domkyrke in Oslo. Their first child, Princess Märtha Louise, was born three years later on 22 September 1971 in Oslo. Their second child, Prince Haakon, was born on 20 July 1973 in Oslo. He has 5 grandchildren, Maud Angelica Behn (*2003), Princess Ingrid Alexandra (*2004), Leah Isadora Behn (*2005), Prince Sverre Magnus (*2005) and Emma Tallulah Behn (*2008).

He was enthroned after the death of his father on 17 January 1991. As the Norwegian King, heads the government meetings at Oslo Palace every Friday, he has also meetings with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister every week. He makes state and official visits abroad and hosts those incomming to Norway. He opens the Parliament every September and appoints goverment. He is four star general and admiral and formally the Supreme Commander of Norwegian Armed Forces.

Harald represented Norway in sailing in 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games. During the 1994 Olympic Games in Norway he declared the games for open. Twice during recent years he has been unable to perform his monarchial duties, owing to hospitalization and convalescence: in December 2003 to mid-April 2004 due to urinary bladder cancer, and in April to early June 2005 due to aortic stenosis.

H.M. Queen Sonja of Norway

Sonja Haraldsen was born on 4 July 1937 in Oslo as the fourth child and second daughter of Karl August Haraldsen and his wife Dagny Haraldsen, née Ulrichsen. Sonja grew up in the district of Vinderen in Oslo and completed her secondary education in 1954.She received a diploma in dressmaking and tailoring at the Oslo Vocational School, as well as a diploma from École Professionelle des Jeunes Filles in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she studied accounting, fashion design and social science.

She returned to Norway to continue her studies at University of Oslo, where she recieved undergraduate degree in French, English and Art History.

After 9 years of courship, in March 1968 she became engaged to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, which caused a lot of controversy in Norway. They were married on 29 August 1968 at Oslo Domkyrke in Oslo. Their first child, Princess Märtha Louise, was born three years later on 22 September 1971 in Oslo. Their second child, Prince Haakon, was born on 20 July 1973 in Oslo. Sonja has 5 grandchildren, Maud Angelica Behn (*2003), Princess Ingrid Alexandra (*2004), Leah Isadora Behn (*2005), Prince Sverre Magnus (*2005) and Emma Tallulah Behn (*2008).

Immediately after the wedding, Sonja who became Crown Princess of Norway, started to perform her royal duties, traveling extensively in Norway and abroad. In 1972 she was involved in establishing Princess Märtha Louise’s Fund, which provides assistance to disabled children in Norway. From 1987 to 1990 she served as Vice President of the Norwegian Red Cross, where she was responsible for the organizations foreign activities.

On 17 January 1991, Sonja became first Norwegian Queen Consort in 53 years. As the Queen Consort she accompanies her husband on foreign and state visits abroad, she is a hostess for those incomming visits to Norway. She attends the opening of the parliament as well as National Day Celebrations and Nobel Peace Prize Awards.

H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway

Prince Haakon of Norway was born on 20 July 1973 in Rikshospitalet in Oslo as second child and first son of Crown Prince Harald of Norway and his wife Crown Princess Sonja of Norway, née Haraldsen. He was christened at Royal Chaple of the Royal Palace in Oslo on 20 September 1973. His godparents were, King Olav V of Norway, Princess Astrid of Norway, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Prince Carl Bernadotte and Princess Anne, The Princess Royal.

Haakon grew up at his father's childhood home Skaugum in Asker. His parents wanted for him and his sister childhood as similar as possible to the one of other children in Norway. Therefore Haakon attended a municipality pre-school and local primary and secondary schools. Haakon graduated from his secondary school, Kristelig Gymnasium, in spring 1992. Just two weeks after graduation, he started naval training school, KNM Harald Hårfagre, at Madlamoen on the outskirts of Stavanger. After five weeks of basic training he spent a year at the Officers´ Candidate School / Navy at Horten. Afterwards he carried out the first level of education at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy in Bergen. From August 1995, he served a year of internship as second-in-command on one of the Navy´s missile torpedo boats. He then went abroad receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California in 1999. After his return to Norway he received lectures at University of Oslo and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' civil servant introductory course in 2001. He completed his education in 2003 at the London School of Economics, where he was awarded an MSc in development studies, specialising in international trade and Africa.

On 1 December 2000, the Norwegian Royal Court announced the engagement between Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem-Hoiby. This caused a lot of controversy in Norway, since Mette-Marit was a single mother of a son, Marius Borg Hoiby (*1997) and his father was convicted of drug-related offences. The couple married on 25 August 2001 in Oslo Cathedral. The couples first child, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, was born on 21 January 2004 in Oslo. Due to the change in Act of Succession in 1990, Ingrid is second in the line to Norwegian throne after her father. Their second child, Prince Sverre Magnus, was born on 3 December 2005 in Oslo.

As a Crown Prince, Haakon makes foreign visits, he also appears at incomming state visits in Norway. He attends opening of the Parliament, Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, makes municipality visits. During the period of November 2003 to April 2004 and then again March 2005 to June 2005 Haakon acted as a Regent during the hospitalization and convalescence of the King. Haakon is patron of 12 organizations and events. He is a co-founder of Global Dignity, an independent, non-political organization that promotes the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life. In his free time he is involved in several sports and seems to take a particular liking to windsurfing.

H.R.H. Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway

Mette-Marit Tjessem-Hoiby was born on 19 August 1973 in Kristiansand as one of four children of Sven Hoiby and Marit Tjessem. She grew up in Kristiansand. After starting at Oddernes upper secondary school in Kristiansand Mette-Marit spent six months at Wangaratta High School located in North East Victoria, Australia as an exchange student. She then continued her secondary school education at Kristiansand Katedralskole where she graduated in 1994. After longer break from her studies Mette-Marit attended Bjørknes Private School and then took preliminary university examination at Adger University College. As a part-time student, she took longer than usual to complete her high school education before going on to take preparatory university courses at Agder. She then worked for a year at Cafe Engebret in Oslo. On 13 January 1997 she gave birth to her first child, son Marius Borg Hoiby, whose father is Morten Borg.

After becoming a single mother she met the Corwn Prince at party related to Quard Festival, in her home town Kristiansand. On 1 December 2000, the Norwegian Royal Court announced their engagement. This caused a lot of controversy, because Mette-Marit was a single mother and the father of the child was convicted of drug-related offences. The couple married on 25 August 2001 in Oslo Cathedral. The couples first child, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, was born on 21 January 2004 in Oslo. During 2002 and 2003 when the family resided in London, Mette-Marit undertook development studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, without graduating. Currently Mette-Marit is attending lectures at the faculties of arts and social sciences at the University of Oslo.

As the wife of Crown Prince she is supporting him in his work, she takes part at foreign visits abroad and those comming to Norway. She is working as UNAIDS Special Representative and works also with various other organisations.

H.R.H. Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway was born on 21 January 2004 in Rikshospitalet in Oslo as the first child of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, née Tjessem-Hoiby. She is second in line to the Norwegian Throne after her father. She was christened on 17 April 2004 in Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Oslo. Her godparents were, King Harald V of Norway, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Prince Felipe of Asturias, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and Marit Tjessem.

In August 2010 Ingrid Alexandra started primary school at Janslokka in Asker.

Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway was born on 3 December 2005 in Rikshospitalet in Oslo as the second child of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, née Tjessem-Hoiby. He was christened on 4 March 2006 at Royal Chaple of the Royal Palace in Oslo. His godparents were, Queen Sonja of Norway, Crown Princess Máxima of Netherlands, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, Princess Rosario of Bulgaria, Espen Hoiby, Bjørn Steinsland and Marianne Gjellestad.

Sverre Magnus started primary school education at Janslokka in Asker.

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, was born on 22 September 1971 in Oslo, as the first child of Crown Prince Harald of Norway and his wife Crown Princess Sonja of Norway, née Haraldsen. She was christened on 19 October 1971 at Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Oslo. Her godparents were, Princess Ragnhild of Norway, King Olav V of Norway, Princess Margaretha of Sweden, Count Flemming af Rosenborg, Dagny Haraldsen, Haakon Haraldsen, Nils Jørgen Astrup and Ilmi Riddervold.

Märtha Louise grew up at his father's childhood home Skaugum in Asker. Her parents wanted for hier and later her brother, childhood as similar as possible to the one of other children in Norway. Therefore Märtha Louise attended a municipality pre-school and local primary and secondary schools. Märtha Louise is a certified physiotherapist, but does not perform the profesion.

The engagement between her and Ari Mikael Behn was annonced by Norwegian Royal Court on 13 December 2001. The marriage took place in Nidarosdomen in Trondheim on 24 May 2002. The couples first daughter, Maud Angelica Behn, was born on 29 April 2003. Their second daughter Leah Isadora Behn, was born on 8 April 2005. Their third daughter Emma Tallulah Behn, was born on 29 September 2008.

On 1 January 2002, after Princess Märtha Louise started her own business, in order to work with more freedom from her constitutional role as a princess, she began paying income tax. After consultation with her, King Harald of Norway removed Märtha Louise's H.R.H title to loosen the ties between her business activities and royal family. Märtha established a commercial entertainment business based on giving public and televised performances reciting folk tales and singing with well-known Norwegian choirs.

Märtha Louise still occasionally performes duties on behalf of royal family and Sattends official dinners hosted by the King & Queen. She still has 6 patronages, all of them are health related.
